This study discusses what we can do for the condition monitoring of storage tanks by acoustic emission (AE) technique. We first introduce our attitude to the tank inspection by AE by and then the advanced method for source location of signal AEs detected by the AE sensors mounted on the terrace of annular plates. Emphasis is laid on the accurate locati on of integrity loss in the tank floor plates. At the last portion of this paper, we discuss drawbacks of conventional parallel-type AE monitoring system a...

This study discusses what we can do for the corrosion monitoring of storage tanks by acoustic emission (AE) technique. AEs from rust fractures were monitored by AE sensors mounted on terrace of annular plate (annular sensor) and side wall (side wall sensor) using two AE systems developed by us (ADAS) and commercially available. Percentages of AE signal counts classified by eye-inspection were less than 10 % of the total events monitored by the ADAS and less than 0.92 % by the commercial AE system. Th...

This paper discusses monitoring method of active path corrosion (anodic dissolution ) type SCC of stainless steel utilizing both of acoustic emission (AE) and corrosion potential fluctuation (CPF). The SCC in this paper is limited t o chloride SCC of Type-304 steel. TG-SCC in boiling 42% MgCl2 solution (JIS ???) does not emit strong AEs since it is caused by anodic dissolution of active path. However we often monitor weak AEs from fracture of corrosion products, friction of SCC and hydrogen gas evolution. ...
